COVID-19 Vaccine Information
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network remain committed to helping you stay safe and healthy while the nation works to halt the spread of COVID-19 through a mass vaccination effort.
To support this effort, Blue Cross and BCN members can expect to pay $0 to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, when available to you.
On Jan. 11, 2021, Michigan moved to the next phase of vaccinations for the COVID-19 virus. In this phase, the vaccine is available to:
- People who are 65 and older
- Police officers and firefighters
- Pre-K through 12 teachers
- Prison and jail officers
- Child care providers
- This is in addition to health care workers and residents in long-term care facilities who were among those in the first phase eligible to be vaccinated
In December of 2020, in the midst of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Catholic bishops in Michigan provided insights about the benefit of vaccinations for public health outcomes. The bishops also addressed moral questions for Catholics about the COVID-19 vaccines available at the time: Pfizer and Moderna. With the introduction of a new option from Johnson & Johnson that is now available in the state, the Michigan bishops have revised their statement to share moral concerns with the vaccine’s design, production, development and testing.

Currently, demand for the vaccine from those in eligible groups dramatically exceeds current supply in Michigan and elsewhere. We don’t have information as to when this will be resolved. According to the state, the next priority group isn’t expected to begin getting the vaccine until late spring.
