News Release: On the Death of Bishop Britt...

LANSING—Michigan Catholic Conference president and chief executive officer Sister Monica Kostielney, R.S.M., made the following statement today regarding the unexpected passing of Most Reverend Kevin M. Britt, bishop of Grand Rapids:

“The Michigan Catholic Conference shares its profound sorrow and astonishment today with the parishioners, clergy and family of Bishop Kevin Britt, who passed away unexpectedly this weekend. We remember his zeal for the apostolate and the many talents and accomplishments that he brought to our organization.

Bishop Britt was not only a man dedicated to the Way, the Truth, and the Life, but also a shepherd who trusted in the Holy Spirit and inspired countless individuals. His energy for the Lord’s work was enhanced by his profound sense of hospitality and humor. Bishop Britt’s fidelity, compassion and loving service will be long remembered with edification and gratitude.”

While bishop of the Roman Catholic diocese of Grand Rapids since October 2003, Bishop Kevin Britt was an active member of the Michigan Catholic Conference Board of Directors, advising on numerous matters of church and state and serving on the Lay Employees Retirement Plan Pension Board.

Michigan Catholic Conference is the official public policy voice of the Catholic Church in this state.
